High End vs. Drugstore Beauty Buys

Today I’m sharing a handful of affordable and pricier products that are less about dupes and more about general use. My prestige picks won’t deliver the exact same results as the makeup and skincare I’m showing you from the drugstore or affordable independent companies, and vice versa, but that doesn’t mean I’m not obsessed with all of these fabulous products. I’ve come to learn that expensive products can definitely be worth the money while certain select inexpensive products can make me look better than any prestige dupe I’ve yet to find.

Moisturizers - Moisturizers are meant to hydrate and plump up the skin, which contributes to its healthy appearance. I have combination skin but I use CeraVe’s Moisturizing Lotion for normal to dry skin in order to get as much moisture as possible. If I’m feeling extra dry and looking to kick things up a notch I use Context’s Restorative Night Cream for a majorly moisturized boost.

Foundations - Chanel’s Les Beige Healthy Glow Foundation is a sheer to full coverage formula that makes my skin look radiant and healthy, as the product suggests. I’ve always been a bigger fan of full coverage formulas like the Revlon ColorStay Foundation, especially when my skin is acting up. But lately I’ve been opting for Chanel and letting my imperfections peek through. I look more like myself and less made up.

Bronzers - This Chocolate Soleil Bronzer by Too Faced may not be from the drugstore (only breaking this one rule, I promise) but if you buy the sample size, which I always do because it seriously lasts forever, you’ll be getting some major bang for your buck. I love a bronzer with tons of pigment that doesn’t look muddy on the skin. The Chocolate Soleil and Yves Saint Laurent’s Bronzing Stone both wear evenly, the Too Faced is just slightly more grey toned.

Blushes - Great blushes can be found anywhere but the next two really stand out for me. e.l.f.’s Blush, which retails for just 3 dollars comes with major pigment that packs a punch. Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous Blush has the same amount of staying power along with some added sparkle.

Single shadows - Individual eyeshadows have gradually become my favorite mini makeup items to collect. Splurging on a brand new eye shadow palette is super fun but there’s always a shade you probably wouldn’t purchase as a single. I enjoy customizing my collection with single shadows from Bobbi Brown and NYX. They look just as good on the eyes as they do in their packaging.

Lip liners - You all know by now that I have an intense love for MAC lip pencils. The color selection is out of control, the application is smooth and the longevity is top notch. I didn’t branch out from these liners until I decided to give ColourPop’s Lippie Stix a shot. They retail for about a third of the price of MAC’s and work just as well.

Lipsticks - Bold lipsticks are where it’s at for me and Maybelline’s Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks provide the kind of color that can complete an entire outfit. I’ve been able to build a substantial lipstick collection since most of my purchases have gone down at the drugstore but of course there’s room for fancier finds. My current favorite high end lipstick has to be Dolce & Gabbana’s Classic Cream Lipstick. Wearing it makes me feel like a sophisticated and classic lady.

Lip glosses - The lipgloss game has come a long way since middle school when everyone had those squeeze tubes from Victoria’s Secret. My two current favorites are by Yves Saint Laurent and Gerard Cosmetics. The best thing about both of these glosses? They smell absolutely incredible and you can actually see the pigment! If you don’t mind the stickiness that comes with pretty much every single lipstick there is, then give either of these a try.
